Griffin Insurance Agency (“we,” “us,” or “our”) is an independent insurance agency in Sumter, South Carolina. This policy explains what information we collect through griffininsurancesc.com, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It covers the website and the quote forms on it. If you become a client, the privacy notice we give you at that time also applies.
We ask for sensitive information when you request a quote, and for health and Medicare quotes that includes information about your health. We treat it accordingly, and this policy is written to tell you plainly what happens to it.
1. What we collect
When you request a quote. Our quote forms ask for what an insurance carrier needs in order to price coverage. Depending on the type of insurance, that can include your name, address, phone number, email address, date of birth, gender, marital status, household members, tobacco use, your current coverage and carrier, property or vehicle details, and your business details. For health, Medicare, and life quotes it can also include information about your health, your prescriptions, and the doctors you want to keep.
When you contact us. If you call, text, email, or use the chat window on our site, we keep what you send us so we can answer and so we have a record of the conversation.
Automatically, when you visit. Our analytics record standard technical information such as your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view, and the site or search that sent you. We use cookies for this. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site still works without them.
We do not ask for your Social Security number to start a quote.
2. Why we use it
- To prepare quotes and present your options.
- To apply for, place, service, change, and renew coverage you ask us to.
- To answer your questions and follow up about a request you made.
- To meet our obligations to insurance carriers, state insurance regulators, and, for Medicare and Marketplace business, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
- To understand how the site is used so we can improve it.
3. Who we share it with
Insurance carriers and the intermediaries we work through. To get you a quote we have to send your information to the companies that might write your coverage, and to the managing general agents, wholesalers, and field marketing organizations we access those companies through. This is the core of what an independent agency does, and a quote cannot happen without it.
Service providers who run parts of our operation. They may only use your information to perform that service for us:
- Cognito Forms hosts our quote forms and receives what you enter on them.
- Canopy Connect powers the optional “import my current policy” feature on personal auto and home quotes, if you choose to use it.
- LeadConnector powers the chat window and our client communication system.
- Google Analytics measures site traffic.
- Our agency management system, phone system, and email provider.
Some pages link out to a partner who handles the transaction themselves, such as Back9 for life insurance, BondExchange for surety bonds, and Blue Cross Blue Shield Global Solutions for travel medical. Those links open on the partner's own site, and what you enter there is covered by that company's privacy policy, not this one.
When the law requires it. We will share information in response to a subpoena, court order, regulatory examination, or other legal obligation, and to investigate suspected fraud.
4. What we do not do
- We do not sell your information.
- We do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.
- We do not rent or trade your email address or phone number.
- We do not use information you give us for a Medicare or health quote to market non-health products to you as part of that conversation.
5. Calls, texts, and email
We contact you about the request you made. If you ask us for a quote, expect us to get back to you about that quote.
We send automated or marketing text messages only if you have separately agreed to receive them, and agreeing is never a condition of getting a quote or buying a policy. You can stop them any time by replying STOP to a message, or by telling us. Message and data rates may apply.
We honor the National Do Not Call Registry and South Carolina's do-not-call rules. If you are on the registry, we will not make telemarketing calls to you. We may still contact you about a quote you asked us for, or about a policy we service for you.
You can opt out of marketing email using the unsubscribe link in any marketing message, or by contacting us.
6. How long we keep it
We keep your information for as long as we need it for the purpose we collected it, and for as long as insurance and privacy laws, our carriers, and our regulators require. Some records have long minimums. For example, consent and application documentation for Health Insurance Marketplace enrollments must be retained for at least ten years. If you asked for a quote and never became a client, we keep the request for a shorter period and then dispose of it securely.
7. Your choices
You can ask us to:
- tell you what personal information we hold about you;
- correct information that is wrong;
- delete information, where we are not required to keep it;
- stop sending you marketing.
Contact us using the details in section 10 and tell us what you want. We will verify who you are before we act, and we will respond within the time the applicable law allows. If we cannot do what you asked because a law or a carrier requires us to keep the record, we will tell you that and why.
8. How we protect it
We maintain administrative, technical, and physical safeguards intended to protect personal information against loss, misuse, and unauthorized access, and we require our service providers to do the same. No website or system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If you would rather not send sensitive details through a web form, call or text us at 803-848-0089, or come by the office.
9. Children
This site is not directed to children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. We do collect information about children as household members or dependents when a parent or guardian gives it to us as part of a quote. If you believe a child has given us information directly, contact us and we will delete it.
